About Us
It started with a package that never arrived
Years ago, our founder Brian Monde ordered something from an American online store while living in Zambia. The seller didn't ship to Africa, so he did what most people there do — he used a freight forwarder with a local address.
The package left the United States. Then it disappeared.
It took a month of back-and-forth before the forwarder admitted they had misplaced it. And when they finally did, they explained that insurance was a separate fee he would have needed to buy upfront. That information had never been clearly visible anywhere on their website.
He was out the money and the device, and there was nobody to hold responsible.
The problem wasn't unusual
That experience wasn't a one-off. Across Zambia, buying quality technology means choosing between sellers who won't ship to you, freight forwarders whose terms only become clear when something goes wrong, and social media marketplace sellers operating with no formal checkout, no warranty, and no recourse if the device fails.
Professionals and creatives who need equipment they can rely on are left with very few honest options.
Opsando was founded to be one.
What we built instead
Every policy we have exists because of a specific way the alternatives fail people.
Transit insurance is included, not sold separately. Every order is fully insured from dispatch until delivery. If a device is lost or damaged on the way to you, you get a replacement or a full refund. You don't have to have bought anything extra, and you won't find that out afterwards.
A real checkout, with real prices. You see the full cost before you pay, including tax and duty on Zambian orders of one or two items. No negotiating in direct messages, no bank transfers to a personal account, no surprise bill when the courier arrives.
Customs handled for you. We're registered for tax in Zambia, and our clearing agent there handles the customs process on your behalf at no extra charge. You don't need a freight forwarder, and you don't need to become an expert in import procedure to buy a laptop.
A warranty that means something. Every device comes with a free 3-month warranty. If a covered fault appears, we sort it out — without you shipping anything back to Norway.
Devices we've actually checked. Each one is inspected, tested, cleaned and graded before listing, with its condition and battery health stated openly. What you read on the product page is what arrives.
Where we are, and where we ship
Opsando operates from Sveio, a small town in Vestland on the west coast of Norway.
The original plan was Zambia alone. Customers in neighbouring countries found us anyway and asked, so we opened to Zimbabwe and Angola, and we expect that list to grow as we build the same infrastructure in each new market. We'd rather do a few countries properly than claim to ship everywhere and handle none of them well.
Why refurbished
A well-refurbished Apple device does everything a new one does, at a fraction of the price, and keeps working equipment out of landfill. The parts that wear — the battery, the screen, the ports — are exactly the parts we test and replace.
The catch is that "refurbished" only means something if the person selling it did the work. That's the part we're accountable for.
