Netflix in Zambia: prices, plans, and how to pay
Netflix bills Zambian accounts in US dollars, and plans run from $2.99 to $9.99 a month. The subscription itself is affordable. Paying for it is the part that catches people out.

Which one makes sense? Mobile is the cheapest way in, but it only works on a phone or tablet, so it's no use if you want Netflix on a TV or laptop. Basic adds laptop and TV viewing at HD. Standard is the usual choice for a household, since two people can watch at once. Premium is worth it only if you have a 4K TV and several people watching simultaneously.
Why Zambian cards get declined on Netflix
This is the real problem, and it isn't your fault.
Netflix charges in US dollars, which makes every payment an international transaction. Zambian bank cards frequently fail on these for a few reasons: banks restrict forex transactions, card BINs get blocked for international use, or the currency conversion simply doesn't go through.
Then there's the larger group: people who have a mobile money wallet and no card at all. Mobile money is how most transactions happen in Zambia, and Netflix doesn't accept it.
Either way, you end up in the same position. You can afford the subscription. You just can't pay for it.
How gift cards solve this
A Netflix gift card is a prepaid code you redeem on your own Netflix account. The balance sits there and gets used automatically against your monthly subscription until it runs out.
The important part is that buying the card and paying Netflix are two separate transactions. You buy the card with whatever payment method you have, including MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money. Netflix then takes payment from your account balance rather than from a card.
No bank account. No international card. No declined payments.
Netflix gift cards are tied to a currency rather than a country, and they have to match the currency your account is billed in. Because Netflix bills Zambian accounts in USD, USD gift cards work here. That isn't true everywhere, which is why cards bought in the wrong currency sometimes fail.

Any leftover balance stays on your account and goes toward the following month, so nothing is wasted. Balances don't expire.
How to buy and redeem

- Your code arrives by email within 4 hours
- Go to netflix.com/code, sign in or create an account, and enter your code
The balance is applied to your account immediately and used against your subscription automatically.
One thing to know before you buy. Gift cards only work on accounts billed directly by Netflix. If you subscribed through Apple, a mobile carrier, or a partner bundle, Netflix blocks gift card redemption on that account. You would need to cancel that arrangement and restart directly with Netflix.
Common questions
Do I need a Netflix account already? No. You can create one during redemption and use the gift card as your payment method from the start.
Can I use a gift card on an existing subscription? Yes. The balance applies to your account and is used before any card on file is charged.
Do gift card balances expire? No. The balance stays on your account until it's used.
Can I use more than one card? Yes. Cards are consumed one at a time, in the order you redeemed them.
Can I buy a gift card for someone else? Yes. The code is sent to the email address on your order, and you can forward it to whoever you're giving it to. They redeem it on their own Netflix account at netflix.com/code, and nothing ties the card to you once it's redeemed. The recipient's Netflix account needs to be billed in US dollars, which is the case in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
What if my code doesn't work? The usual causes are a currency mismatch, a code already redeemed, a typo, or an account billed through a third party. Check those first, then contact us with your order number.
