Pay with MTN MoMo or Airtel Money

You can pay for any Opsando order using MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money, with no bank account and no card required. Payments are processed securely by DPO Pay by Network, one of Africa's largest payment providers.

And you pay exactly what your cart says. Not a kwacha more.

Why that matters

Anyone who has bought from a seller on Facebook or WhatsApp knows how it usually works. You agree a price, you send the money to their personal mobile money number, and the transaction fee comes out of your pocket on top. The price you agreed is never the price you actually pay.

We've set up our checkout so the transaction fee is charged to us, not to you. Whatever total you see in your cart is the total that leaves your wallet.

It's a small thing on a small purchase. On a phone or a laptop it isn't small at all.

What you need

  • An active MTN or Airtel line with mobile money registered
  • Enough balance in your wallet to cover the order
  • Your mobile money PIN

No bank account, no card, no extra app to download.

How to pay, step by step

1. Add your device to the cart and go to checkout. Fill in your delivery details as normal. For orders of one or two items, your total already includes VAT and duty, so nothing further is due when your order arrives.

2. Choose DPO Pay as your payment method. You may not see "MTN Mobile Money" or "Airtel Money" listed by name at this stage. Look for DPO Pay, or DPO Pay by Network. This is the gateway that processes mobile money on our behalf, and you'll choose your specific wallet on the next screen.

3. You're redirected to the secure payment page. Tapping "Pay now" takes you to DPO's own payment page. Check the amount and confirm the merchant name shows Opsando before you go any further.

4. Choose your wallet and enter your number. Select MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money, then enter the phone number registered to that wallet. This has to be the number the wallet is actually registered to, or the request goes nowhere.

5. Approve the prompt on your phone. MTN or Airtel sends an authorisation request straight to your handset. Enter your PIN to approve it. Nobody from Opsando or DPO will ever ask you for this PIN. If someone does, it isn't us.

6. Wait for the redirect. Once approved, you'll be sent back to our site with your order confirmation, and you'll get a confirmation message from MTN or Airtel too. Don't close the browser before the redirect finishes.

Prefer to pay by card?

DPO also handles Visa, Mastercard and other cards through the same secure page, so you can use whichever suits you. Apple Pay and Google Pay are available at checkout as well.

Tips for a smooth payment

Check your balance before you start. An insufficient balance is the most common reason a mobile money payment fails, and it usually shows up only after the request has already timed out.

Keep your phone in your hand. The authorisation prompt expires after a short window. If you miss it, you'll need to start the payment again.

Use the number the wallet is registered to. Entering a different number sends the request to the wrong place or fails outright.

Wait for the redirect. Closing the browser too early doesn't cancel the payment, but it does leave you unsure whether it went through.

Check the merchant name. Before approving anything, confirm the payment page shows Opsando. This is the simplest way to catch a fake checkout before it costs you.

If your payment fails

Most failures come down to one of four things: not enough balance, the wrong phone number, an expired prompt, or a line that's restricted. Check those and try again.

If money left your wallet but your order wasn't confirmed, email us at support@opsando.com with your payment reference number. Gateway transactions are fully logged, so these are almost always straightforward to trace and resolve.

Is it safe?

Yes. DPO Pay is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant, the highest level of certification in the card payments industry, and it's used by companies including Booking.com, Expedia and DHL across more than twenty African countries.

The security model matters as much as the certification. Your PIN is entered on your own phone, in response to a request from MTN or Airtel directly. We never see it, and neither does the gateway. Nobody can take money from your wallet without you approving it on your handset.

That's the difference between a formal checkout and sending money to a stranger's number. With a formal checkout there's a merchant name to verify, a reference number for every transaction, a company with an address behind it, and somewhere to complain if it goes wrong.
